Advantages of Natural Gas
Piped Natural Gas (PNG) is almost 58% cheaper than Diesel Fuel. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel represents a 30% saving over diesel fuel.
When calculating the full lifecycle savings of operating gas engines versus diesel, the saving is up to 50% of total energy costs. Moreover, the cost of gas is stable, whereas the diesel price fluctuates regularly.
Natural gas is a much cleaner fuel than diesel or petrol – reducing the risk of damage to industrial equipment as well as the maintenance and aftermarket costs of operating gas engines.
Cummins Gas generators have long service intervals (up to 30,000 hours) compared to diesel generators, consuming fewer spare parts and offering higher operational time.
Diesel pilferage is a problem in Nigeria – industry experts estimate that at least 20% of diesel is pilfered or adulterated in Nigeria. PNG is extracted, processed and delivered through pipes.
CNG, on the other hand, can only be stored in high-pressure skids – eliminating the risk of pilferage. Moreover, diesel stock or a particulate treatment system is not required.
Through our gas supply partners, Powergas, CNG delivery is not constrained by access to pipeline infrastructure – CNG can be delivered directly to remote locations and stored on site for continuous fuel supply.
CNG is supplied in specialised tube skids mounted on 40-foot trailers for ease of handling and storage. The solution is customised to meet customer’s demand.
Nigeria holds world's ninth largest proven gas reserves of over 187 trillion cubic feet.
For generating power, CPGNL source the locally produced natural gas and CNG, enabling domestic employment opportunities, spurs economic growth, aids local manufacturing with cheaper electricity and reduces strain on foreign exchange reserves for US dollars.
Natural gas can replace several types of solid, liquid, and gaseous fuels in industrial processes (from steel to paper production) and is the most cost-effective fuel for power generation in Nigeria, boosting productivity and competitiveness. CPGNL further offer full CHP and CCHP solutions that allow industries to use waste heat for further processing.
Natural gas is the cleanest and quietest burning fossil fuel available, emitting significantly less carbon and nitrogen emissions than diesel – creating a safer and happier work environment.
Moreover, Nigeria has large deposits of Natural Gas which means Natural Gas will be available in the long run for power generation and industrial usage
CNG tanks are safer than gasoline or diesel tanks, decreasing the likelihood of accidental release. In the unlikely event of any release, CNG disperses into the air, reducing the risk of fire or ground contamination
Natural Gas has a higher ignition temperature (628.3oC) than Gasoline (246oC) or Diesel fuel (210oC), which significantly reduces the chance of accidental ignition.
